Man of the Match: Sanju Samson, for his 22-ball 37.
Rajasthan Royals sealed their first points in VIVO IPL 2018 returning to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. In a rain-affected match at their bastion, the Royals conquered the Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs.
The Rajasthan Royals had made 153-5 in 17.5 overs when their innings had to be hastily concluded because of dips. The showers kept the players off the field for more than two and half hours, and when play recommenced, the Daredevils were given a mark of 71 runs in six overs – the target reviewed using the DLS method.
Colin Munro of the Daredevils went to pavilion off the first ball, and regardless of the best exertions of their blasters, Glenn Maxwell (17), Rishabh Pant (20) and Chris Morris (17*), they only made 60 in the allotted six overs.
Sanju Samson’s 37 was the finest blow in the Rajasthan Royals batting; all through his 22-ball stay on the wicket, Samson hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. Samson was dismissed at the end of the tenth over
Kulkarni bowled well though didn’t pick any wicket but his cutters denied the batsmen any room and any pace off the surface, giving only 5 runs.
Ben Laughlin walked away being the Royals’ most successful bowler, with returns of 2-20 from his two overs and dismissed Maxwell and Vijay Shankar.
In the RR innings, Shahbaz Nadeem has done well after giving away 23 runs in his first two overs; in his remaining two overs, bowling the eleventh and fourteenth of the innings, he conceded only 11 runs. During his four-over spell, the left-arm spinner, brought into the XI in place of Amit Mishra, dismissed RR’s two well-set batsmen, Samson and Rahane.
The victory stretched the Rajasthan Royals’ streak of successive conquests over the Daredevils to 7 matches. It was also the Royals’ 9th uninterrupted triumph in an IPL match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
